Michael Zheng is an MSc student developing in vitro placental models under the co-supervision of Drs. Lala and Renaud. He completed an undergraduate thesis project on this topic as part of his BMSc in Medical Cell Biology. His project aims to develop more comprehensive in vitro 3D placental models, which could be altered to reflect pathological conditions. These models could allow for more in-depth studies of aberrant placental development and uncover insights that make pregnancy safer for mothers and fetuses.
